Henshaw Street, Leicester
Building on MAS expertises and skills within the student accommodation sector this is MAS fifth student accommodation scheme within the City of Leicester.
The project site located within De Montfort University quarter and within prime location to other amenities such as transport links and services for residents. The existing building formally used as a hosiery factory present a fine example of Art Deco architectural style of its era.
The existing building contains interesting glazed bricks and different types of brick and tile bonding. The scheme looks to extend this architectural language upwards by adding additional two floors to provide 58 bed spaces arranged in self contained studios as well as two-studios for co-sharing.
MAS window detail and window surround is further developed from its first generation used at 73 Princess Road East and 1-9 De Montfort Mews. The skewing of window surround to one side encourages extended views down Henshaw Street and beyond whilst discouraging overlooking on the residential new build block opposite the site. New facing materials will be carefully selected to match existing and extended utilising the exact detail, bonding, jointing and fenestration as the existing building features.
