Hinckley District Scout Lodge, Peckleton, Leicestershire
The project commissioned through MAS involvement at the Leicestershire Cares professionals Network providing services to charitable organisation within the City of Leicester and the County of Leicestershire.
The project designed for Hinckley District Scouts’ campsite at Fox Coverts providing upgraded camping accommodation for young people.
The new sleeping block accommodation for different age groups located between the villages of Kirkby Mallory and Newbold Verdon in the East Midlands county of Leicestershire. The whole site covers almost 16 acres of woodland with a number of activities suitable for all age groups.
The inspiration behind the project concept was utilising sustainable materials and off site construction methods. Furthermore, the architectural merit of the design evolved from rigours contextual analysis and sought reference to the woodland areas of the site.
Arranging the vertical timber cladding in a hit and miss formation at different widths and spacing provide an interesting dialogue between the building and the wooded backdrop. The dialogue further reinforced with the timber choice being Cedar, changing in colour and evolving as the woodland evolves throughout the different seasons, MAS new sleeping accommodation is perfect for a Scout hide out.
